Yesterday was such an awesome day. We experienced how the tourists feel. We experienced the excitement of exploring a different place that we have never done together before. Clarke Quay was suggested by my BFF when I told him we needed new hangout spots! He then suggested Chinatown as our nearby destination to bounce back and fro. Chinatown was a good place to find food. ((:
Once we reached Clarke Quay MRT station, we were lost for a moment. Searching for directions always add to our excitement for we aren't afraid of being lost. But I got to admit that I trust KL to do mostly on guiding ourselves to reach every destination.
Finally, we found the direction leading us to a place we wanted - Clarke Quay Riverbank. I earlier joked to KL via Whatsapp asking him to google on how to get there beforehand. I told him I wasn't expecting the river flowing towards us to know we were at the right place. He laughed. But he didn't do any of it. ):
We followed an arrow showing that we had to turn left once we tapped out of the MRT station. But we were stuck once we were outside in front of an unknown shopping mall. Eventually, I recalled that mall, Central where I went there for my Fire Pitch rehearsal last year.
Stuck we moved around trying to find the sight of the familiar Singapore river. However, we were so fascinated by the surrounding that we were somewhat speechless. We spotted the Singapore Flyer far away.
After exiting Cheers, a building caught my eyes. It had vivid and different colours painted on every window. Looking back, I remembered passing by that old building when I was heading home by bus from SSD. As soon as I remembered that part, I mentally saw a picture of the river streaming calmly down the bank. It was located somewhere near that colourful building.
It wasn't my photo, sadly
Then, we walked towards that building. Halfway walking, we saw the river by our left side. Woots!!! (: We did it! That was when we embarked out on our journey of exploration. We soon got into photographing ourselves by auto-timing using my beloved camera. After snapping moments, we started walking alongside the river enjoying the scenery in front of us.
Clarke Quay wasn't fully filled with people yet as the day was still too young. Through my observation, I realised that we might be the only two teenagers walking around Clarke Quay. But we didn't care. We just let our legs do the walking.
I remembered waving at the people in that boat |
We strolled past eating outlets, peeking through the windows and prices of food. All of the food we saw on the menus looked so tantalising yet unaffordable. For now, we could only be able to see through the windows to know what was inside them. We joked, day-dreamt, laughed and talked. I felt so good. I finally was freed from an indescribable amount of exam stress that seemed to have weighed on my shoulders for months.
Upon reaching Chinatown, we walked past many shops that seemed unchanged over the years. That town is forever flooded with a sea of tourists looking for cheap souvenirs to bring them back home and delicious yet affordable food to fill their stomaches. KL was the photographer of the day as he captured various and interesting buildings, surroundings and passers-by with various colours such as black-white, sepia and normal. I was just an assistant.
As we rested our tired legs, we broke the silence by auto-timing the camera for best friends photos in different colours. I loved that part of the day. (: I also tried taking photos of KL star-jumping using the multiburst type. And, it worked!!! Really! It came out in a collage as shown below!
We even dared to take photos on the road where the cars could appear anytime. We had to be careful since we are deaf. Thank God there weren't many cars using that road we were standing on. It was tiring but fun as we had to carry a chair onto the road to auto-time for shooting. But when the cars wanted to drive through the road, we had to bring the chair back onto the path and let the car pass by. The chair was used for the camera to sit on for auto-timing. All the photos taken during that time were all well-taken, credit to KL. (:
Once we reached Clarke Quay by bus, I was suddenly reminded of Shanghai where my fellow group mates went on a cruise passing by many beautifully lit buildings when the night scenery took away our breaths. We sat there, being soaked in silence with the beautiful night scenery. I tried to snap photos with no blurry vision. And I succeeded! The photos turned out as beautiful as I saw with my own eyes!
Finally, we headed home after ice-cream time at McDonalds. (: We were so tired that we forgot that I needed to get home by 9.30pm. We left approximately 8.30pm. We were too shagged to walk faster but we tried our best to reach there by 8.45pm.
Through this outing and other trip experiences we had at the foreign places, we learn to be more independent and experience what tourists experience. Feeling the excitement tourists have is so fun!!! ((: We love the spontaneousness inside us. (: I love how seeing people being able to go in the eating outlets with expensive food made us dream of earning more or wishing we are born with a silver spoon in our mouths...
Till then, ciao!
A bus-stop where we took bus to Chinatown |
After making a circle of walking at Clarke Quay, we decided to go to Chinatown since Clarke Quay wasn't bustling with people yet.

6 years and still ongoing |
I love this photo! |
Afterwards, we then strolled around the shops once again. This time, we could feel it getting more vibrant as the night drew near. We walked using different route this time. Talking followed, of course. I remembered making a promise together to spend some money on sumptuous food once we are 21 years old. (: Hopefully, we do earn enough keep to do so.
