A nostalgic Sunday for daddy

After church, my brother and I were brought to a road where my daddy used to grow in - Joo Chiat Road. Everywhere I saw were nicely painted with various colours, especially on coffee shops.

Daddy's old house where he grew up in
Soon, we were stood in front of his old house. In his old times, it had only one storey. An owner whom we bumped into, happened to be the one who bought my daddy's house back then. He even invited us in to see the new transformation of the house.

Once we peeked through the door that was already opened, the newly renovated house took us by surprise as the owner built a new staircase leading to the second storey. What took me by surprise was that it wasn't the usual house like I had imagined. It was actually a store room where he stored all the items that he uses to sell. I knew it would be disgusting to look at those items strewn all over the floor but what made it more eventful was that we kids were allowed to look into what kind of house daddy used to live in. It looked pretty small as compared to mine.

Daddy started telling my brother and me where each room such as bedrooms, kitchen and living room, used to be placed. As he was sharing it with us, I started to turn his story into a picture in my mind and I was like, "Wow, it was so small!". It was an interesting story. I had stood in front of his house twice since my childhood times if I wasn't wrong but today was the day I finally stepped inside and I'm 18.

My lunch!

A reflection of daddy's favourite playground aka street

 The couple's "dream car"

In the bus on the way home, daddy told me the cars were rarely seen on the streets during his young years. It clearly explained why the street was his playground as it was safer as compared to today. He used to walk around the street buying food, playing around and the likes. He spotted many playground corners and I often followed where his finger was pointing against the seat window.

His life looked so simple, without any advanced technologies such as iPhones, computers, laptops, big television and even a good toilet. He told me some disgusting and funny things from his past. I was so curious and stunned at his stories that we ended up laughing at his memories at times.

He promised himself that he would love to go back someday, to that memory lane by himself to recall as many memories as he could.
